How much should we process images for publication?

This is the first in a series of images created specifically to provide examples of common manipulations that are inappropriate.  You are invited to examine this image,  and see if you can detect what post-processing techniques were erroneously used.  At the end of the week,  we will  reveal and analyze the manipulations to the image.
