Learning to do the right thing – The CSE/COPE Joint Session

How does a journal or society create an ethics policy?  Christine Bennett, PhD, Publications Ethics Manager  of The American Physiological Society. (APS) shared the process the publications committee and editors in chief at APS used to develop their publications ethics guidelines,  and provided templates for communicating concerns with authors.   Digital data-images and figures topped the list of ethics concerns in this session for editors, authors, and reviewers.   A significant service is provided when seminars like this recognize the need for providing a reference point for the publishing community on this important topic, and we look forward to seeing more societies following their lead.  We note and appreciate that image-data are featured in their Ethics poster, and we are developing a similar resource for those who use data-images in their manuscripts.
